Tskhinvali Seeks Alternative Water Supplies

A group of experts from Russia?s North Ossetian Republic are visiting Tskhinvali to help the breakaway region?s capital seek alternative water supplies, the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee reported on June 6.

Tskhinvali has been without water for thirteen days. Moscow and Tskhinvali have blamed Tbilisi, but the latter claims that the South Ossetian side?s refusal to cooperate on water pipeline rehabilitation is the cause of the problem.

Plans for alternative water supplies involve drilling at least three artesian wells in Tskhinvali, the prime minister of breakaway South Ossetia, Yuri Morozov, said.

?But it won?t be enough,? he said and added that construction of a water sluice was planned in the Znauri district to the west of Tskhinvali.
