NGO Fair Awards ‘Civil Society Friends’

A second Georgian NGO Fair, which opened on May 4 in Tbilisi, awarded five individuals with the Friends of Civil Society award for their contribution to the development of the civil society in Georgia.


Awards were granted to Education Minister Alexander Lomaia, who spent almost a decade as a civil society activist before being appointed as Minister in 2004; Giorgi Gvakharia, a respected art critic; Naira Gelashvili, head of the Center for Cultural Relations – Caucasian House; Mikheil Chachkhunashvili, a former executive director of Open Society Georgia Foundation (OSGF) and Omie Kerr, who served as public affairs officer at the American Embassy in Tbilisi in the 1990s.


The two-day NGO Fair, which is organized by the Civic Initiative Center, Partners Georgia and the UN Association of Georgia, had submissions from over 70 civil society organizations.
