AzerGaz Stops Gas Supplies to Georgia

Azerbaijani state company AzerGaz has stopped natural gas supplies to Georgia.

Gas had been supplied on the basis of an agreement between Tbilisi and Baku signed in December 2006. Under its conditions Georgia received 1.3 million cubic meters of gas per day at USD 120 per 1000 cubic meters. This contract, however, expired on April 1.

A Georgian Energy Ministry official, however, told Civil.Ge on April 12 that talks on the resumption of supplies are ongoing.

According to the Ministry official, the suspension will, in any case, have no repercussions for gas users in Georgia. The country already receives enough gas from Russian energy giant Gazprom and from Azerbaijan?s Shah-Deniz field.
