Tbilisi Sets Conditions for JCC Plenary Session

The Georgian side is not against of holding a plenary session of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) over South Ossetia in Tbilisi, but the sides at first need to agree on number of important issues, the Georgian side announced after an informal, information session of the JCC which was held on March 21-23 in Istanbul.


The press office of Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues said in a statement on March 23 that joint working groups should elaborate concrete proposals over demilitarization of the conflict zone and cooperation between the law enforcement agencies before discussing these issues at the JCC plenary session.


The Georgian side has also underlined that cooperation between the Georgian and Ossetian law enforcers ?can only be achieved through undertaking tangible steps towards demilitarization? of the conflict zone.


The South Ossetian side reported on March 23 that its chief negotiator Boris Chochiev complained during the informal session in Istanbul about ?unauthorized presence? of about 250-strong Georgian police force in the Georgian village of Kurta in the conflict zone. Headquarters of Tbilisi-loyal South Ossetian alternative leader Dimitri Sanakoev?s administration is located in the village.
