Bagapsh: Anti-Terrorist Squad to Confront ‘Georgian Gangs’

The creation of an anti-terrorist center under the Abkhaz Ministry of Internal Affairs is a response to “ongoing raids of terrorist groups and gangs from the territory of Georgia,” Abkhaz leader Sergey Bagapsh said on January 11, as reported by Apsnipress news agency.

Bagapsh was speaking at a graduation ceremony of recruits who have undergone training in an anti-terrorist center located in Ochamchire district.

“Tbilisi plans to destabilize the situation in the Gali district and to continue its provocative policy towards Abkhazia, which means open support of terrorism,” Bagapsh added.

Apsnipress reported that the anti-terrorist center that was set up last year will have analytical and intelligence units. Other details about the anti-terrorist center are not available.

The Georgian side has alleged that Russian military instructors are actively engaged in training the Abkhaz anti-terrorist units.

Georgian Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili accused the Ochamchire-based anti-terrorist center of masterminding the attack on the Georgian police post in the conflict zone that killed one policeman and injured another on January 5.
