Officials in Baku for Gas Talks

A group of Georgian officials will leave for Baku, Azerbaijan on December 13 to further negotiate the gas supply from the Shah-Deniz field.

The Georgian delegation, led by the chief of the state-run Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation (GOGC), Alexander Khetaguri, will reportedly later be joined by Georgian Energy Minister Nika Gilauri.

This meeting will be the latest in a series of gas talks over the redistribution of Shah-Deniz gas between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. The most recent one was held in Tbilisi between the energy ministers from the three countries on December 8.

Officials said after the December 8 talks that Turkey was ready to give part of its gas share to Azerbaijan and Georgia in 2007, but the exact amount was still a subject of negotiation.

Azerbaijani news agencies reported on December 12 that Turkey was ready to give 1,3 billion cubic meters of gas to Azerbaijan and 800 million cubic meters to Georgia from its originally defined share of 2,8 billion cubic meters of Shah-Deniz gas. No official confirmation of this report was available from the Georgian authorities.
