Russia Confirms it will Pull Out Troops from Tbilisi in 2006

The Russian side has officially notified the Georgian Defense Ministry about its plans to pull the headquarters of the Group of Russian Troops in Trans Caucasus out of Tbilisi ahead of schedule, Mamuka Kudava, Georgia’s Deputy Defense Minister, said on October 13.


According to the Russian-Georgian agreement, the Group of Russian Troops in Tran Caucasus should have left Georgian territory in the course of 2008.


But Russian Defense Minister Sergey Ivanov said on October 10 that Russia will withdrawal Russian troops Headquarters in Tbilisi by the end of 2006.


There are total of 387 Russian servicemen and 484 civilians serving in the Headquarters.
