Abkhaz Officials Comment on Khaindrava Dismissal

Abkhaz leader Sergey Bagapsh said that the dismissal of Giorgi Khaindrava from the position of the Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues “will not influence further negotiating process,” Apsnipress reported on July 21.

“Whoever is appointed to this position, the most important is to be constructive during the negotiations,” Bagapsh said.

Foreign Minister of breakaway Abkhazia Sergey Shamba said the Georgian side has changed its negotiators several times, “but all of them strictly adhered to the instructions from above.”

“So it makes no difference for Abkhazia with whom we will talk,” Shamba said.

He said that Khaindrava was “a professional,” but he also hailed Merab Antadze, currently Deputy Foreign Minister, who will replace Khaindrava, as a “very experienced diplomat.”
