Burjanadze: Opposition’s Ultimatum Unacceptable

Georgian Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze said on April 6 that if the opposition sets an ultimatum in exchange for ceasing boycott to the parliamentary sessions, it will yield “no positive results.”
 
“If the opposition puts forth constructive issues, we are ready to discuss all of them, but if they set an ultimatum, this will yield no positive results,” Burjanadze told reporters.
 
Prior to this statement the Parliamentary Chairperson held separate consultations with those opposition parliamentarians, who announced a boycott of the parliamentary sessions after the parliamentary majority stripped Valery Gelashvili of the Republican Party of his MP credentials on March 31 and who are currently working over the memorandum, outlining their joint strategy.
 
“The Parliament will continue its activities regardless of whether the opposition boycotts the sessions or not. Of course, I will welcome ceasing of boycotting by the opposition… but if they [opposition] will not [say no to boycott] the Parliament will adopt those laws and ratify those agreements, which are supported by the parliamentary majority,” Burjanadze said.
