Saakashvili: We Can Contribute to Europe’s Energy Security

President Saakashvili said that it is high time for Europe to think over alternative sources of gas supply, which can be shipped via Georgia

Saakashvili was speaking at a news conference after talks with visiting Swedish Prime Minister Göran Persson.

“Energy problems between Georgia and Russia concern not only these two countries. Tomorrow one of the European states might face a similar problem… Georgia needs Europe, but Europe needs Georgia as well,” the Georgian leader said.

“We deem it necessary to hold a forum with the participation of the European Ministers of Energy. We are preparing this kind of summit in Tbilisi. Mr. Persson has assured us that he can provide assistance,” Saakashvili added.
