Molashivli at the hearing in Tbilisi City Court.

The Tbilisi City Court sentenced Sulkhan Molashvili, ex-chief of the State Audit Agency and an ally to Georgia’s ex-President Eduard Shevardnadze, to nine years of imprisonment on September 7.

Molashvili, who was arrested on April 22, 2004, was found guilty of misappropriation of 3 million Lari (USD 1.6 million).

At the court hearing on September 7 Molashvili, who claims innocence, accused the General Prosecutor’s Office of fabricating the case against him and the judge of blindly following the prosecutors’ orders.

Molashvili’s defense lawyer, Shalva Shavgulidze, told reporters that he will appeal the court’s ruling in the District Court.
