Georgian Press: ?Accumulated Unresolved Problems? a Challenge for Government

In its front-page article published on March 28 the Georgian daily 24 Hours says that the ?recently generated unsolved problems,? including sporadic protest rallies triggered by the electricity shortage, the crisis involving would-be medical students and a ?disagreement within the governmental, which was revealed after the Gori incident? when some top-level police officials were arrested for alleged links with smuggling, ?discredit those successful initiatives which are being launched by the government.?

The paper also says that these unfavorable developments have ?triggered speculations about an anticipated split in the parliamentary majority? which is formed by the ruling National Movement party. According to these speculations, one part of the parliamentarians from the ruling party will soon ally themselves with the MPs from the opposition Republican Party, which itself split from the ruling party last year.
 
According to another daily, Rezonansi, ?the opposition parties have become active recently against the background of the unsolved social problems and sporadic street protests that have been generated.?

?However, it is too early to draw any conclusions regarding the opposition parties? chances of forming a strong coalition able to oppose the government. It is still doubtful that this kind of coalition will be formed,? the Rezonansi reads.
