Parliament still Fails to Vote for Budgetary Amendments

(Tbilisi, August 22, 2003, Civil Georgia) – The Georgian Parliament failed on August 21 to vote for the amendments to the 2003 budget.

Both the opposition and pro-governmental MPs blamed each other for the failure to vote for the budgetary amendments.

At the yesterday’s session the United Democrats, New Rights and Traditionalist opposition factions, as well as the chairmen of the Parliamentary committees for Tax Revenues and Defense and Security accused the government of budgetary shortfall and demanded its resignation.

If Georgia fails to revise the 2003 budget, it will be impossible for the Georgian government to reschedule Georgia’s !
debts with the Paris Club, because the country will lose IMF support.

The Parliament will try again to vote for the amendments at today’s session.
