Government Discusses Measures to Keep Order on the Eve of Elections

(Tbilisi, June 14 2003, Civil Georgia) – At a June 14 government session the issues of maintaining of the order in the country is discussed.

“The upcoming election is of crucial importance, so it must be held in a democratic, transparent way,” Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze said while speaking at the session.

Prosecutor General Nugzar Gabrichidze reported on the complicated criminal situation in the country and discussed the six-month work of his department.

The session is being held with the participation of the high-rank officials of the law-enforcement bodies. 

President Shevardnadze speaking at the government’s session on June 4, after the opposition’s protest rally in Tbilisi, said the emergency meeting of the government should be convened to work out “special measures to secure order in the country”.
