Murder of Zarandia Might Be Linked to Arms Smuggling – Officials Say

(Tbilisi, January 9, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Authorities say murder of Badri Zarandia, co-chairman of the Patriots’ Union, might be linked to arms smuggling. Police rules out version of robbery.

But the members of the Patriots Union deny Zarandia’s involvement in the arms smuggling from Georgia’s breakaway region of Abkhazia.

Badri Zarandia, former political prisoner, and leader of the armed paramilitary group in the region of Samegrelo, western Georgia, was shot dead on January 8 in a town of Zugdidi.


The law enforcers report that the police is looking for two suspects, residents of Zugdidi.
