Russian Envoy Urges Georgian, Abkhaz Sides to Renew Talks

(Tbilisi, Civil Georgia, December 10, 2002) – The problem of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict “can in principle be resolved”, Valeri Loshchinin, the Russian President’s representative for the Abkhazian conflict resolution said today.

Russian media sources report that Loshchinin urged the Georgian and Abkhaz sides for the renewal of the peace talks.

Georgian side insists on discussion of the document elaborated by the UN Secretary General’s former representative in Georgia Dieter Boden, which considers granting Abkhazia broad autonomy within the Georgian state. Breakaway Abkhazia rejects the document demanding independence.

Revaz Adamia, Georgian envoy to the UN said in the interview to the Rustavi 2 TV channel on December 10 that Russia in its official statements supports the document but in reality does little to give the document go-ahead.
