AES-Telasi Negotiates Continued Tax Holiday

(Tbilisi, January 25, Civil Georgia) – Executives of the AES-Telasi energy distribution company met the State Minister Avtandil Jorbenadze to negotiate continued tax holiday from the value added tax (VAT).

The company officials say abolishing the tax break would affect the end-users through increased tariff. They argue that the IMF officials pressure Georgian government to abolish the tax benefits.

The Minister of Finance Zurab Nogaideli commented that “the Georgian government will decide itself on the tax regime within the country.” “I am against any tax benefits,” he added.

AES board will discuss pulling off from Georgia due to heavy losses. Aboloshing the tax break will make decision on withdrawal more certain.
