Opposition Leader Warns of ‘People’s Rebellion’ if Polls Unfair
Davit Usupashvili, leader of the Republican Party, part of the nine-party opposition coalition, has warned of “a people’s rebellion” if the parliamentary elections this spring are not free and fair.
“I will put it bluntly,” he said. “A people’s rebellion is inevitable if the upcoming parliamentary elections are held in the same way that the presidential one was held.”
Usupashvili’s remarks, made on Rustavi 2 TV’s political talk-show, Primetime, on January 21, are particularly notable, given his moderate credentials.
