Foreign Minister to Visit U.S., Germany

Davit Bakradze, the Georgia’s foreign minister, left for the United States as part of the Georgian authorities efforts to, as President Saakashvili said, “mobilize international support” amid Russia’s decision to establish official links with breakaway Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

After visiting the United States Bakradze will also travel to Germany to hold talks with his German counterpart, he told the Georgian Public Broadcaster on April 20 before departure to the U.S.

“I hope a session of the UN Security Council over the matter will be held while my visit to New York and I hope that will be able to address the Security Council over the issue,” Bakradze said. “Then the visit to Washington is also planned where I will meet U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.”

Georgia has requested the UN Security Council to hold an emergency session over Russia’s Move. The Security Council is expected to decide whether to hold the session over the matter this week.
