One Injured in S.Ossetian Shooting
One local resident was slightly injured as a result of a shootout in the village of Eredvi in the South Ossetian conflict zone late on March 13.
The Georgian side has claimed that the incident was provoked by the South Ossetian side.
“It was a provocation to involve the Georgian battalion in a shootout with the Russians [peacekeepers],” Mamuka Kurashvili, the Georgian Ministry of Defense official in charge of overseeing peacekeeping operations in the conflict zones, said. “But they received an appropriate response.”
Meanwhile, the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee quoted the region’s de facto interior ministry as saying Georgian law enforcement officers had fired on each other.
