Orthodox Church Wants President who Respects Religion
llia II, the Patriarch of the Georgian Orthodox Church, has called on voters to elect a president, who “respects religion and its holy places.”
“The Georgian people should elect a person, who will bring kindness to our country and take care of our holy places, our Orthodox religion, faith and church, our cultural, spiritual and intellectual values,” Ilia II said on January 4. “The person, who understands these values should be elected by the Georgian people.”
In an earlier statement the Patriarch called for a high voter turnout and added: “I will not tell you who to vote for… It is up to you to decide who will be good for our people and our homeland.”
