Abkhazia Holds Military Exercises

The Abkhaz mountain rifle battalion of breakaway Abkhazia will hold military exercises on November 19-21, Apsnypress news agency reported.

According to the report, exercises will be held on November 20 at the Tsebelda training ground, which is close to Tbilisi-controlled Upper Kodori Gorge. According to Abkhazia’s Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Zaytsev, the battalion was raised on alarm and the reserve troops, including heavy armament were moved from the west of Abkhazia to Tsebelda training ground. The trainings will last until 21 November, live shooting is planned on 20 November, Zaytsev said.

Abkhaz leader Sergey Bagapsh said on November 16 that the Abkhaz armed forces would become a volunteer, professional army next year.
