Russian Commander: Annual Plan of Military Pullout Fulfilled
Commander of Russian Land Forces, Col. Gen. Aleksey Maslov said on August 25 that Russia has completely fulfilled the plan on withdrawal of its military hardware from Georgia for 2005, as envisaged by the agreement reached by Russian and Georgian Foreign Ministers in May, Interfax and RIA Novosti reported.
?The situation around the Russian bases in Georgia [Batumi and Akhalkalaki] is normal. We have implemented all the commitments on the withdrawal of military hardware from Georgia in due terms, as planned for 2005,? Interfax quotes Maslov as saying.
The Commander of Land Troops stressed that the next stage of withdrawal will start as soon as the two countries agree on the terms, temporary functioning and pullout of Russian military bases.
The Russian and Georgian Foreign Ministers agreed in Moscow on May 30 that Russia will pull out its military bases from Batumi and Akhalkalaki by 2008.
