Abkhaz Court Rules Vote Recount

The Supreme Court of breakaway Abkhazia ruled on October 26 to re-count votes cast during the disputed presidential elections on October 3, Russian news agencies reported.

Presidential candidate Raul Khajimba, who along with the local government’s support also enjoys backing from Moscow, appealed the Supreme Court, demanding the cancellation of the Abkhaz Central Election Commission’s October 11 protocol, which declared Sergey Bagapsh as the winner of the elections, with 50.08% of the vote.

According to the Supreme Court’s decision a special commission will be set up to re-count votes. One representative of the Central Election Commission and two representatives of each presidential candidates will compose the commission, which will start vote re-counting on October 27.
