IMF to Resume Programs in Georgia
Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze expressed satisfaction with the decision of the International Monetary Fund to resume programs in Georgia.
“This decision was unexpected for me. Geogria will receive economic aid and the door of the Paris Club will be opened for us. We will be able to discuss the issue of debt rescheduling again,” Shevardnadze said in his radio broadcast on October 20.
According to the Georgian authorities, the IMF Council of Directors discussed on October 17 the program on economic development and poverty reduction in Georgia, as a result of which it was decided to resume the IMF programs in Georgia.
