Election Watchdog Says Government does not meet Commitments
The national election watchdog International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy (ISFED) says that the Central Election Commission (CEC) failed to meet the deadlines for publishing the electoral lists, thus hindering free and fair elections on November 2 .
ISFED statement issued on October 2 reads “although the [James] Baker’s [U.S. former secretary of state, who visited Georgia in July and delivered election guidelines to the authorities and the political parties] scorecard assigned the government to develop transparent compilation of accurate, computerized voter registry lists, CEC failed to publish voters’ lists duly to be displayed in polling stations and on the Internet by September 1.”
