Abkhaz Parties Call on Putin to Recognize Region’s Independence

A political-public movement in Abkhazia – the Forum of National Unity -called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to take relevant measures to ensure that Russia and the international community recognize Abkhazia?s independence, the news agency Apsnypress reported on October 8.

In a statement issued on October 7, the Forum of National Unity, which unites several political parties and public movements, supports Abkhazia’s associated membership in the Russian Federation.

The Forum of National Unity, which describes Russia as ?a guarantor of peace and stability?,  claims that ?Abkhazia is not a part of Georgia? and will never allow the ?annexation of the territory of Abkhazia? by Georgia.
