Georgia Cuts Diplomatic Ties with Russia

A decision has been made to cut diplomatic relations with Russia, Grigol Vashadze, the Georgian deputy foreign minister, said on August 29.

“Neither Georgia in Russia nor Russia in Georgia will have a diplomatic representation; only the consulates will remain,” he told journalists. “Georgia will have only a consul, vice consul and technical staff [in Moscow].”

A third country will represent Georgia’s interests in Russia following the severing of ties, he said. “Consultations are currently underway with several countries on the matter,” Vashadze added.
