Deputy Foreign Minister Becomes GUAM Secretary General

First Deputy Foreign Minister Valeri Chechelashvili has been appointed as Secretary General of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development ? GUAM. He will hold the position for four years starting on June 1.

GUAM is a loose organisation uniting Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova.

Nikoloz Vashakidze has replaced Chechelashvili as the First Deputy Foreign Minister.

The presidents of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Ukraine pledged to boost cooperation within the framework of GUAM during a meeting in the Polish city of Krakow on May 11.
