Georgian Officials in Moscow for Talks to Reopen Air Link

Acting head of the Georgian transport regulation agency Alexander Chkhikvadze is visiting Moscow to negotiate with the Russian side on February 5-7 about the possible resumption of air traffic between the two countries.

?We hope that air traffic will be resumed,? Chkhikvadze said at a news conference in Tbilisi on February 3.

Russia cut air, sea, land and railway links, and postal communication, with Georgia on October 3, 2006 ? one day after Georgia released four Russian military officers accused by Tbilisi of espionage.

Alexander Chkhikvadze said that although Russian cities were the major destination for Georgian air carriers, they have been able to survive financially despite the cut.
