‘Group of Fiends’ Visit Georgia over Abkhaz Conflict

A high-level delegation of the Group of Friends of the UN Secretary-General will visit Georgia to hold talks over the Abkhaz conflict resolution both in Tbilisi and Sokhumi on May 23-25.


Members of the delegation are German Foreign Ministry’s Ambassador-at-Large Dr Norbert Baas, who acts as coordinator of the group, French Foreign Ministry official Frédéric Baleine du Laurens, Russian Foreign Ministry’s Ambassador-at-Large Mikhail Bocharnikov, UK Special Representative for the South Caucasus Sir Brian Fall and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Matthew Bryza.


The delegations will hold talks with President Saakashvili, Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze, Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili, State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Giorgi Khaindrava and the President’s Special Advisor for Abkhaz Conflict Issues Irakli Alasania.


The delegation will also travel to Sokhumi and meet with Abkhaz leader Sergey Bagapsh.
