Abkhazia Seeks for Free Economic Zones

The Abkhaz newspaper Nuzhnaya Gazeta reported on July 19 that a draft law envisaging the creation of free economic zones in breakaway Abkhazia has been submitted to the unrecognized republic?s Parliament for consideration.

The newspaper quoted one of the co-authors of the draft law, Ruslan Jopua, as saying that the document envisages ?favorable conditions? for investments in Abkhazia. He said that these areas, which potentially might be created in Ochamchire, Tkvarcheli and the Gali districts, will be tax-free for investors for three years.

Ruslan Jopua said that the Abkhaz Parliament is expected to consider this draft law in autumn.
