Presidential Elections set for January 4, 2004
The Parliament unanimously approved the proposal to hold presidential elections on January 4, 2004.
The Parliament, elected in during the 1999 elections, was convened today to discuss the issue of holding new presidential elections. 158 MPs attended the session.
The new parliamentary elections will be held, according to the constitution, on a date set by the President.
Thus Nino Burjanadze, who is the interim President after Shevardnadze’s resignation, will set the date for new parliamentary elections.
It is anticipated that the parliamentary elections will be held simultaneously with the presidential elections on January 4, 2004.
