Abashidze, Zhvania Held Telephone Conversation
Leader of Adjara Autonomous Republic Aslan Abashidze said on November 23 that he held a telephone conversation with one of the leaders of the Burjanadze-Democrats Zurab Zhvania.
“Zurab Zhvania said we should find a compromise. He is clever enough to define what is happening in the country. Zhvania hopes the consequent developments will be normal,” Aslan Abashidze said at a session of the Adjara Supreme Council on November 23.
The telephone conversation between Aslan Abashidze and Zurab Zhvania was held on November 23 late at night, after President Shevardnadze resigned.
Aslan Abashidze announced state of emergency in the Autonomous Republic in the wake of Eduard Shevardnadze’s resignation. Aslan Abashidze also blocked the administrative borders of the Autonomous Republic. Reports say police on high alert in Adjara.
