Court Canceled CEC’s Controversial Ruling
Tbilisi district court ruled on November 17 that the Central Election Commission’s (CEC) decision to determine the number of voters only by those ballots which were cast for a particular political party, as illegal.
According to the CEC’s decision canceled ballots, which include the ballots of voters, who did not vote for any party, and ballots which were incorrectly filled, should not have been counted.
Thus it became easer to clear 7% barrier, necessary to secure seats in the Parliament. Opposition claimed that this decision was adopted in order to let the Industrialists and the New Rights parties, which allegedly cooperate with the authorities, to clear 7% barrier.
