Court Rules to Recount Votes Cast by Georgians Abroad

The Tbilisi district court ruled late on November 13 to cancel the final protocol of vote tally of the precincts stationed abroad.

According to the court’s ruling the Mtatsminda District Election Commission, which is responsible for the precincts abroad, has to recount and recheck the votes cast during the November 2 parliamentary elections by the Georgians living abroad.

The National Movement, the Labor Party and the International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy (ISFED) filed a lawsuit to the district court, claiming the number of voters was inflated.

According to the final protocol of vote tally about 80 thousand Georgian citizens living abroad participated in the November 2 parliamentary elections and most of the votes were cast for the pro-presidential election bloc For New Georgia. The New Rights and the Industrialists also received several thousand votes.
