70 tons of humanitarian aid, mainly food products, has already been sent to the Kodori Gorge to be distributed among the local population, officials said on July 28.
In a televised address to the nation on July 27, President Saakashvili said that the authorities will launch rehabilitation projects in the Georgian-administered upper Kodori Gorge in breakaway Abkhazia. He said projects will include the rehabilitation of roads, schools, hospitals and an air field. Saakashvili also said that funds will be allocated to distribute allowances to the local population of the gorge.
Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli said on July 28 that he has already instructed the government to outline a plan of action on the rehabilitation project.
?We consider the social-economic revival of this area to be extremely important,? Nogaideli said at the government?s session.
