Georgia Seized Turkish Ship Carrying Russian Passports

(Tbilisi, July 10, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Georgia seized Russian passports on July 9 printed in the Russian and Abkhaz languages from a Turkish ship sailing from Trabzon to Sochi, Russia.

Georgian Border Guard Department reports, that the Turkish ship was carrying 25,000 Russian passport blanks. 

Georgian authorities frequently protest against issuing the Russian passports to the residents of the Georgia’s breakaway region of Abkhazia.
