Pro-Presidential Parliamentary Factions Staged Walk-Out

(Tbilisi, December 19, 2002. Civil Georgia) – Pro-Presidential Parliamentary factions left the session today demanding the discussion of President Shevardnadze’s proposal on structural reform of the ministries.

The reform considers cancellation of the Ministries of State Property Management and Construction and Urbanization.

The most of the MPs expressed protest regarding the proposal claiming that the reform should be well-planned, otherwise it would have no positive impact.

Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze criticized Citizens Union of Georgia, Tanadgoma, Alliance for New Georgia, Socialists and Abkhazia factions, which left the session, stating that the walk-out is an attempt of “blackmailing the Parliament that is inadmissible.
