Russia to Finalize Establishing Diplomatic Ties with Sokhumi, Tskhinvali

Russian ambassadors to Abkhazia and South Ossetia will submit their credentials to the leaders of the breakaway regions on December 16, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

“This event will become an important step towards establishment of full-scale interstate relations between the Russian Federation and new independent South Caucasian states,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said. “The establishment of diplomatic representations of Russia in Sokhumi and Tskhinvali will undoubtedly promote the establishment of Russian-Abkhazian and Russian-South Ossetian cooperation, interaction for ensuring security and stability in Abkhazia and South Ossetia.”

Meanwhile, Abkhaz ambassador to the Russian Federation Igor Akhba submitted copy of his credentials to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin in Moscow on December 10.
