S.Ossetian Cabinet Revamped

South Ossetian leader, Eduard Kokoity, has replaced most of the ministers in the breakaway region’s cabinet and appointed some of the former Russian officials on the senior posts.

Foreign Minister, Murat Jioev, retained the post in the new cabinet, which is chaired by Aslanbek Bulatsev, a former head of the Federal Tax Service in Russia’s North Ossetian Republic.

Alexander Bolshakov, a former Vice-Governor of Russia’s Ulyanovsk Oblast, was appointed as chief of the Kokoity’s administration. Bolshakov was head of the Medvedev’s election campaign local headquarters in Ulyanovsk during the presidential elections in Russia.

New defense minister, Yuri Tanaev, is also “invitee” – as locals in Tskhinvali call those who have been sent to serve on official posts from Russia. He has replaced Anatoly Barankevich, also a native of Russia. The South Ossetian news sources said “not much is known” about Tanaev; they reported that he was “Russian with the army rank of Maj. Gen.”

New education minister of the breakaway region, Anatoly Kursaev, is from Russia’s North Ossetia.
