Georgian troops in the South Ossetian conflict zone seized a mini-van loaded with ammunition and weapons, belonging to the South Ossetian side, on July 18.
Georgian Interior Minister Irakli Okruashvili said that the truck was carrying anti-tank guided missile system “Fagot” (NATO reporting name “Spigot”).
The Georgian Interior Minister said that the mini-van loaded with arms was en rout from South Ossetian capital Tskhinvali to Java district, which serves as a stronghold for South Ossetian militia groups.
Okruashvili also said that the Russian peacekeepers stationed in the conflict zone tried to prevent the Georgian troops from seizing the truck.
?The incident proves once again that the Russian peacekeepers failed to control the area properly,? Irakli Okruashvili said at a news briefing on July 19 in Tbilisi.
Shots were heard near the Georgian village of Anchabeti in the conflict zone after the seizure of the mini-van but no casualties have been reported.
This is the second case of arms seizure in the conflict zone by the Georgian troops in recent weeks. On July 7, two trucks, driven by Russian peacekeepers and loaded with unguided missiles, were confiscated by the Georgian side.
