No Need in Mediation, Lavrov Tells OSCE

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told OSCE Chairman-in-Office Belgian Foreign Minister Karel De Gucht in a phone conversation on October 4 that there is no need for the OSCE or any other third party to mediate between Russia and Georgia.

?Sergey Lavrov has stressed that prospects to improve relations with Georgia totally depend on the further behavior of Saakashvili?s regime, which knows very well what should be done in respect to the drastic change of its anti-Russian stance? Hence there is no need and there should be no need for ‘mediation’ from the OSCE or others to improve these relations? between Georgia and Russia, an information note issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry reads.

During a telephone conversation Lavrov also thanked OSCE Chairman-in-Office for the organization’s efforts to secure the release of four Russian military officers.
