Abkhaz Reports Say No Shooting in Kodori

Commander of the Russian peacekeeping troops in Abkhazia Sergey Chaban and Defense Minister of the unrecognized republic Sultan Sosnaliev said there have been no skirmishes in Kodori gorge, Abkhaz news agency Apsnipress reported late on July 25.


Chaban said that only ?some shots? were heard. Sosnaliev said that although the situation is tense in the gorge, no armed clashes are taking place there.


Georgian authorities said in the evening of July 25 that a police operation is underway in upper Kodori gorge against the defiant militia group Monadire (Hunter), led by local warlord Emzar Kvitsiani.
