Solana Expects to Discuss ‘Frozen Conflicts’ at EU-Russian Summit

EU foreign policy chef Javier Solana said that along with other issues he expects to discuss the frozen conflicts in the post Soviet space when EU and Russian leaders meet at a summit in Samara on May 18.

“I expect we will address the internal situation in Russia and the EU, as well as practical cooperation in our neighbourhood, in particular how we can co-operate to resolve frozen conflicts,” Solana said in an interview with the Russian news agency RIA Novosti on May 15.

The conflicts in Abkhazia and South Ossetia were high on the agenda during a meeting between Solana and Georgian Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili in Brussels on May 15.
