Labor Party Leader Hails Strike as ?Successful?

Leader of Georgia?s Labor Party Shalva Natelashvili said on April 17 that a nation-wide strike demanding the resignation of President Saakashvili and the dissolution of Parliament, had proved successful.

Natelashvili said that ?tens of thousands of protesters? participated in the strike. However, independent reports suggest only small-scale protest rallies were held in various cities, where mostly social issues were raised.

?Today we have launched a large-scale public movement, which will continue by all means and result in the peaceful replacement of the present authorities, as they do not intend to leave through the electoral process,? Natelashvili said at a news briefing.
