Georgia Plans Gas Storage

Georgian government is mulling construction of natural gas storage facility, Energy Minister Nika Gilauri said after the government?s session on March 21.


He said Rustavi near the capital Tbilisi and Ninotsminda in southern Georgia, less than 20 kilometers from the border with Armenia, are considered as potential locations for the gas storage.


?The Energy Ministry has been instructed by the government to finish [feasibility] study of the project in the near future,? Gilauri said.


He also said that the government has yet to decide about the capacity of the storage facility.

Georgian Prime Minister issued a decree on March 13 envisaging allocation of GEL 437 500 for feasibility study of the gas storage project.
