Russia Hints it May Resume Postal Service with Georgia

Russia is interested in resuming postal communication with Georgia, which was cut last October following a spy row between the two countries, Igor Sirtsov, head of the Russian Postal Service, said on March 15.

?We hope our Georgian counterparts will be ready to sit around the negotiating table,? RIA Novosti news agency quoted Sirtsov as saying.

He said that along with political reasons, the Russian side had certain complaints regarding the quality of the postal service in Georgia.

Russia cut air, sea, land and railway links, and postal communication, with Georgia on October 3, 2006 ? one day after Georgia released four Russian military officers accused by Tbilisi of espionage.
