PM, Energy Minister in Azerbaijan for Gas Talks

Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli left for Baku on a one-day working visit on November 30 to hold talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Arthur Rasizade over the purchase of more gas from Azerbaijan’s Shah-Deniz field.

Energy Minister Nika Gilauri and General Director of the state-run Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation (GOGC) Alexander Khetaguri accompany PM Nogaideli in Baku.

?What we want is to increase our gas share from Shah-Deniz from 250 million cubic meters ? which is currently envisaged by the contract ? and we want this Azeri gas to become a major share in our gas consumption,? Energy Minister Gilauri told reporters before his departure to Baku.

?We will inform you about the results of the negotiations after the visit,? Alexander Khetaguri told reporters.

According to the current contract Georgia is expected to receive 200 million cubic meters of gas as a transit fee, plus 50 million cubic meters at a reduced price from the South Caucasus Gas Pipeline, which will transport Azeri gas to Turkey via Georgia starting next year.

According to the Georgian Prime Minister?s press office, the Georgian delegation will also hold talks with Energy and Industry Minister Natig Aliyev, Transport Minister Zia Mamedov and President of State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) Rovnag Abdulayev.
