Senior MP Accuses Russia of Sending Arms to S.Ossetia

Givi Targamadze, an influential parliamentarian who chairs committee for defense and security, accused Russia of sending heavy armament in breakaway South Ossetia, but said that Georgia will not use its military personnel to prevent provocations in the conflict zone.

?We will respond [to provocations] promptly and effectively, but without involvement of the military units,? MP Givi Targamadze said at a parliamentary session on July 14.

He said that about 20 infantry fighting vehicles and trucks of URAL type have been brought in the breakaway region from Russia.

?In addition, Russian troops are holding military exercises in [Russia?s North Ossetian Republic] in an immediate vicinity of Roki Tunnel,? MP Targamadze said.

He also told parliamentarians that murder of South Ossetian chief security officials on July 9 and the July 14 blast in Tskhinvali which killed two civilians are part of the provocations undermined by the Russian special services and military intelligence.
